Mike the headless chicken, lived (1945 - ‘47) for 18 months after his beheading. Let’s embrace this as hope for the midterms. Meanwhile the question is whether there are talks between the US and Iran.
After my mission in Afghanistan I started writing. The short blogs are around 230 words. Replacing the rounds of ammunition I was carrying with words. Please take into account I’m not a native speaker.
‘We’re negotiating. Fruitful conversations’, Trump offers a glimpse to the end of the war with Iran and rising oil prices due to the blockade of the Hormuz strait. What we can derive out of Trumps words, who elevated lying to modern art, remains a mystery. Especially if you look at the Iranian (a regime I didn’t deem trustworthy in the past) reaction, who openly question Trumps statements by stating he might be negotiating with the voices in his head.
No wonder if you take into account that POTUS claims Kushner and Witkoff -are they planning a Rivièra in the Persian Gulf as well?!?- negotiating a 15-point plan while at the same time stating that he wants to talk but there’s nobody left to talk with.
‘Their leaders are dead, the next line of leaders are dead, and the following line is mainly dead. We think that’s fine.’
Chances on successful regime change by foreign powers are pretty much nothing. The toppling of a regime by military power, is the easy part. But who will fill the gap? Opposition is usually missing. Locked up, banned, dropped out of windows, bitter tea or other victim of painful accidents.
The Ayatollah is dead. The decapitated snake creates a black hole. A country that, like Trump’s policies, is left running around as a headless chicken.

Mike the headless chicken, leefde (1945-’47) na onthoofding 18 maanden. Dat biedt hoop voor de midterms. Ondertussen schijnen er toch gesprekken tussen Amerika en Iran gaande te zijn.
‘We zijn aan het onderhandelen. Zeer goede en productieve gesprekken’, schetst Trump een spoedig einde aan de oorlog in Iran en dus de stijgende olieprijzen door blokkade van de Straat van Hormuz. Wat we met de woorden van Trump (die liegen tot een kunst verheven heeft) moeten, blijft een raadsel. Zeker als je de reactie van Iran, een regime wat ik normaal gesproken niet op hun woord geloof, hoort. Iran ontkent en vraagt zich af of Trump misschien onderhandelt met de stemmen in zijn hoofd.
Logisch als je bedenkt dat Trump enerzijds claimt dat Kushner en Witkoff - komt er ook een Rivièra aan de Perzische Golf?!? - een 15-puntenplan bespreken en tegelijkertijd stelt dat hij wel wil praten, maar er nagenoeg niemand om mee te praten over is.
‘Hun leiders zijn dood, de volgende lichting leiders is dood en de volgende lichting leiders is overwegend dood. Dat vinden we eigenlijk prima.’
De kans op succes bij een regimechange van buitenaf is overigens vrijwel altijd nihil. Het militair omverwerpen van een regime is vaak nog het minste probleem, maar wie neemt het daarna over? Oppositie in dergelijke staten ontbreekt. Opgesloten, verdreven, valt uit ramen, drinkt slechte thee of heeft een ander pijnlijk toeval ontmoet.
De Ayatollah is dood. De slang onthoofd. Wat rest is een zwart gat. Een land dat, net als het beleid Trump, trekken vertoont van een kip zonder kop.
